CHIEF ESTIMATOR / SENIOR ESTIMATOR Location: Dallas, TX Job type: Permanent / Full-Time Our national specialty concrete cutting client is hiring a Chief Estimator / Senior Estimator for a permanent / full-time opportunity in Dallas TX. Relocation Assistance offered Chief Estimator with experience with HCSS is highly desirable. Heavy Bid experience with some experience in concrete, bridges, roadways. Highway experience is highly desired. The Chief Estimator will be responsible for estimating, proposal development and management specializing in concrete pavement restoration and road construction, assembling complete bid packages and proposals through close-out. This position is also responsible for monitoring and maintaining job costs including purchasing and schedules. Jobs bids can range from $1M to $5M per project. RESPONSIBILITIESMonitor bid opportunities and perform customer relationship managementDevelop estimates from various types of bid documents and their key components such as bonding, insurance, indemnification, and damage clausesEnsure thorough and accurate takeoffsDevelop construction means and methods, appropriate equipment, material use and applications, crew sizing, and crew build-upDetermine productivity rates and accurately include these estimates in the bid packageVisit proposed job sitesAttend pre-bid and job site meetingsUnderstand and apply Overhead and General Conditions recovery to support the work.Effectively communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, specialty services, and equipment suppliers and ensure scope of work is complete as neededPreparation of work scheduleSuccessfully negotiate project construction time and penalty clausesInnovation and business development on special projects which fall outside the current normal scope of operation for the company to ensure future growthMonitor cost controls and schedules on all projects to verify accuracy of bidsReview cost reports and report any recommendations for change orders REQUIREMENTSB.S. Civil Engineering or Construction Management or the equivalent of 2+ years of project management and estimating experience in heavy, highway (i.e. concrete pavement patching and restoration, road construction).Knowledge of multi-locality labor agreements and prevailing wagesKnowledge of multi-state DOT specificationsAbility to travel for pre-bid conferences, site visits, bid reviews, and other purposes as needed to perform the functions of this position fullySuperior negotiation skills and the ability to successfully resolve contract issues related to bid packagesBe able to write clearly and effectively communicate to all persons and organizations involved in the construction processAbility to understand and update unit costs and the factors that affect construction costPossess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively at all levelsWork to maintain the workload as needed to ensure project bids are timely and completeCommunicate effectively with company executive management for decisions related to pricing, jobs to bid, personnel needs,etcBe proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook.
