Automation Controls Engineer
Overview
In this role you will help stand up customer production lines by owning end-to-end controls from requirements to on-floor commissioning. You’ll design controls for robotic, CNC, and tooling cells and work with cross-functional teams to meet aggressive timelines. The position combines software, hardware, and industrial networks to deliver reliable, scalable automation. This is a hands-on, high-impact role with opportunities to grow into leadership and define multi-cell architecture.

ResponsibilitiesOwn controls design for new robotic, CNC, and tooling cells from concept through run-offWrite and deploy PLC applications on Siemens or other hardware with reusable libraries and standardsTune and commission multi-axis motion (servos, VFDs, steppers) and integrate sensors and safety devicesSpec and design electrical panels and architect industrial networks (EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC UA)Build operator HMIs and lead risk assessmentsCommission on the floor and drive structured root-cause analysisMentor engineers and technicians; codify best practices into libraries and playbooks
Key requirementsBachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience3-6 years delivering automated cells end-to-end in industrial manufacturingPLC/motion experience with Beckhoff and/or Siemens; hands-on servo/VFD tuning and commissioningRobotics experience with ABB, Fanuc, Kuka; ability to simulate cells before hardware existsElectrical & networks knowledge: cabinet/panel design to NFPA 79/UL 508A; EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC UASensor and safety integration; ability to perform risk assessments and defend PL ratings (ISO 13849)Strong commissioning skills on the floor; schematic reading and root-cause analysisExcellent written and verbal communication; collaboration with ME, tooling, and software teamsStrong communication (written and verbal)Mentoring and knowledge sharingCollaborative cross-functional teamworkSiemens/Beckhoff PLCs; motion control (servo, VFD)Robot programming (ABB/Fanuc/Kuka) and cell simulationElectrical panel design; NFPA 79/UL 508A
