Salary: VariesOrthotic and Prosthetic Technician Job Summary:The Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician fabricates orthotic and/or prosthetic devices, including highly complex devices, with little to no guidance. This job requires quick and efficient work to handle days with multiple devices due. The Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician will also be responsible for repairs and adjustments, time management with their jobs, inventory control in their work area, and operating under the company's Six Sigma 6S policy (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Safety). From time to time this person will assist practitioners with questions pertaining to their patients.Key Responsibilities:Note: Requirements may vary based on competency and whether the responsibilities are more focused in a particular department within the labRead and analyze work orders/fabrications form for the associated jobFollows specifications on work ordersCritically assess work orders for missing or conflicting informationFabricate devices following WCBLs Quality AssuranceUnderstand the fabrication process to be able to QC the steps prior to where you are in the fabrication process to ensure any deficiencies are addressed prior to final Check OutComplete associated fabrication stages by predetermined due datesUnderstanding and keeping up on technical knowledge and fabrication techniques and associated industry terminologyPreparing molds for fabricationThermoforming various plastics using drape forming and/or bubble/blister formingMetal work, including bending, possible welding, and finishing, as neededOccasional leatherwork including prep, molding, and sewingRiveting with various rivets and finishesLaminations with different materials, resins, and fabricsEfficiency in making repairs and adjustments to devicesFollows product manufacturers guidelinesEnsures cosmetics of orthosis/prosthesis, alignment of joints and/or components meet the internal standards as well as industry and safety standardsCommunicates effectively with customers regarding their order (as indicated, or communicate effectively with the supervisor)Maintains accurate documentation within WCBLs fabrication trackerProvides guidance to other technicians as neededAdheres to department specific, OSHA, and MSDS safety requirementsWorks well within Six Sigma 6S environment Sort, Set in Order, Standardize, Sustain, and SafetyUtilizes appropriate (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment during fabricationUtilizes proper equipment and departmental safety precautions and equipmentMaintains and cleans equipmentMaintains clean, safe, clutter free and orderly environmentWorks within the SOP of each deviceProvides suggestions for changes to SOP based on improved techniques, materials, and/or designsHas a basic understanding of anatomy related terminologyExperience with Cad/Cam preferredAny other assigned tasks as requested from Lab Manager, Director of C Fab, COO, or CEORequired Skills:Able to shape plastic or metal by bending, welding, or cuttingAbility to use rubber, felt, plastic, leather, wood, fabric, etc. to create necessary devices per specificationsAbility to use hand tools, power tools, and machinery such as but not limited to: hammers, screwdrivers, anvils, welding equipment, drills, saws, sewing machines, routers, oscillating saws, pipe cutters, torque wrenches, sand blasters, belt sanders, vacuum pumps, sonic welder, etcIndependent in laminationsIndependent in basic and complex upper extremity prosthetic systemsIndependent in basic and complex lower extremity prosthetic and/or orthotic systemsExperience with adjustable socket systemsExperience with myoelectrics and/or microprocessorsExperience with hip and shoulder disarticulationsAbility to read diagrams and specificationsSome knowledge of Standard Operating ProceduresGood attention to detailGreat Communicator verbally and in writingWorks well in a fast-paced environmentCan work both independently and as part of a teamEducation and Experience:Trade Certificate from an accredited program in O&P - preferredHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent - requiredEquipment Operated:Basic office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, tabletsHand and power toolsBasic machineryDollies and push cartsAlignment jigsWork Environment:Position is in a busy lab/workshop moderate to loud noiseOccasional exposure to flashing lights via laser scanners and/or welding equipment which may be seizure inducing. ADA accommodation can be requested in regard to this with medical documentation.The position may be occasionally exposed to fumes, gases, odors, dust, and some biological materials. PPE will be required.
