Burn Surgery FellowThe Department of Plastic Surgery at Nassau University Medical Center is seeking a Burn Surgery Fellow for the 2026 to 2027 academic year, beginning July 1, 2026. This is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship in burn surgery and complex wound healing.The fellowship is based within the Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center, the dedicated burn unit at NUMC and part of its Level I Trauma Center. The center serves a catchment area of approximately 3 million people and has provided advanced burn care since 1984. This program offers a high-volume, hands-on clinical experience spanning acute burn care, critical care management, complex wound treatment, and reconstructive surgery.The fellow will train in partnership with and under the clinical guidance of physicians from the New York Plastic Surgical Group (NYPSG).Employment Structure:The fellow is an employee of Nassau University Medical CenterCompensation and benefits are provided by NUMC and aligned with the applicable PGY salary levelThe application review, interview process, and candidate selection are overseen by NYPSG in collaboration with NUMC leadershipKey Responsibilities:Participate in the evaluation and management of acute burn and critical care patientsAssist in operative and non-operative burn care, including grafting and reconstructionManage complex wounds using advanced wound care techniquesGain exposure to hyperbaric medicineWork in partnership with NYPSG physicians across inpatient and operative settingsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams across surgical and critical care servicesParticipate in teaching and mentorship of medical students and residentsContribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives as appropriateTraining Experience:Burn resuscitation and critical care managementOperative burn treatment and skin graftingAdvanced wound care and reconstructionFunctional and aesthetic burn reconstructionMultidisciplinary burn team coordinationRequirements:Qualifications:Preferred:American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery eligible or certifiedRequired:Completion of at least two years of an accredited residency program with critical care experienceEligibility for a New York State medical license (must be obtained by fellowship start date)Strong interest in burn surgery, wound care, and reconstructive surgeryDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-acuity clinical environmentIdeal Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate is self-motivated, seeks progressive autonomy, and is interested in a unique training experience that integrates acute burn management with plastic and reconstructive surgery in collaboration with NYPSG physicians.Application Requirements:Curriculum VitaeUSMLE scores (or equivalent)Letters of recommendation
