To perform routine cleaning work in school buildings according to schedule provided by Maintenance Supervisor/Administrator.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.High School Diploma or equivalent (some experience in school custodial work preferred)18 years of age or olderAbility to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally andin writing) with students, parents, and teachersAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to make repairsAbility to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, efficiency, and safetyKnowledge of cleansing methods and the use, care and safety of cleaning materials andequipmentKnowledge of requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderlyconditionKnowledge of the operation of a heating plant and equipmentFamiliarity with handling and disposal of hazardous materialsPerform physical requirements which may include:A. Requires moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequentlifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.B. Ability to lift and move furniture, desks, shelving, staging and cleaning suppliesC. Ability to operate buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowersand other equipmentD. Requires ability to climb ladders, stretching and bending to perform cleaning,repairs, painting, and cleaning of roofs, gutters and drainsE. Ability to walk to various locations within the school building and the groundsF. Ability to work primarily in a standing positionG. Possible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student injury or illnessAbility to work primarily during the evening hours when school is in session and change todaytime hours at others time of the yearAbility to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effectiverole model for studentsSuch alternative to the above requirements as the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptableESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.Clean areas of the school as assigned (i.e., classrooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria,kitchen, gymnasium, etc.), vacuum, mop, buff floors, wash windows, clean chalk/whiteboards, dust, paint, replace light bulbs, make minor repairs, etc.Sweep walks and entrances and pick up debris on the grounds, clean drains, gutters androofsWash, scrub, disinfect rest rooms daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures, door panels anddrinking fountains dailyClean up spills, pick up trash, respond to special requests for custodial services fromfaculty members with supervisor approvalSet up, take down and move furniture, shelving and partitions as assignedReport safety, sanitary and fire hazards to the proper authorityDuring the day shift perform routine grounds keeping duties as grass cutting, tree and shrubtrimming to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive conditionClean and polish any metal works such as hand railingsBe responsible for locking doors and windows, turning out lights and securing buildingas assignedRequisition custodial supplies and equipment as directed, assist in maintaining aninventory of supplies and equipmentCheck daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are workingproperly during the hours of building occupancyMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student andstaff informationAssist in greeting and directing visitors to the appropriate person and locationParticipate in complete cleaning and routine maintenance of buildings during the summerand winter breaksParticipate in in-service programs as assignedAct as a friendly ambassador for School District #30Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as mayseem to be appropriate to the Board or AdministrationMaintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulationsCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:Possess and maintain a valid First Aid card (if required)Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance. (May be completed at District Office on Tuesday's and Wednesday's between 8:00 am - 1:00 pm by appointment - $30.00/we may take any form of payment)Valid Montana Driver's LicenseBloodborne Pathogen Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training (if required)PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
