Job Title: Pathologists Assistant Location: DETROIT, MI 48202 Hours Per Week: 40.00 (5*8) Shift Time: M-F, 3pm-11:30pm Duration: 13 Weeks Pay: $71.29/hr Facility Details Hospital-based anatomic pathology department supporting surgical pathology and autopsy services Notes: Responsible for growing by section of surgical specimens, biopsy's, complex cases, assessments and submitting it to surgical pathology. Minimum Exp: 5 years Education: Bachelor of Science Required Certification Exp: completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologist's Assistant program or Previous certification by the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants (AAPA). Preferred Certification: as a PA (ASCP) Job Summary: The Pathologists Assistant supports anatomic pathology services under the direction of a Pathologist. This role focuses on the gross examination of surgical specimens, assistance with post-mortem examinations, and ensuring accurate specimen handling in accordance with established pathology standards. Responsibilities Perform gross examination, dissection, and description of surgical specimens and biopsies. Select and submit appropriate tissue sections for microscopic examination, including frozen and permanent sections. Accession specimens and ensure proper identification in compliance with surgical pathology policies. Assist with autopsy procedures, including external examination, organ inspection, dissection, and documentation. Support resident training and assess competency in specimen handling. Perform gross photography and support tumor procurement for biorepository use. Participate in quality assurance, specimen identification, and equipment maintenance activities. Maintain inventory and supplies for the surgical pathology laboratory. Ensure proper tissue retention and disposal after case finalization. Requirements Minimum 5 years of Pathologists Assistant experience Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists Assistant program or prior certification through the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA) Education: Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution – Required Certifications: PA (ASCP) Certification – Preferred
