CAM Specialist

Job Summary: SW North America’s CAM Specialist is a cross departmental position who will be responsible working with the Project Engineering department to determine tool paths and quotations for cycle times on complex parts requiring more detailed and specific cycle information. CAM Specialist will also work with the Applications Engineering department to continue the processing of complex parts through completion of turnkey runoffs. Cycles will be developed using information from tool suppliers and proven using VNCK simulation software. The CAM Specialist will also initiate and perform research and development trials for potential new products or troublesome products and develop best practices for estimating of similar components based on the results. The CAM Specialist will report to the Applications Engineering Manager.The CAM Specialist performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:Produce tool paths from model for manufacturing using Siemens NX or MastercamSimulate cycles using VNCK and other software to ensure accuracy of programsWork with Project Engineering department to perform cycle time studies for complex component estimates. This includes travel to customer sites to review processes and CAM requirementsWork with Applications Engineering department to modify tools paths during dial-in and runoff. This includes traveling with Applications Engineers to support projects at customer sitesMaintain CNC programs up to date and at current revisionWork with tool manufacturers to incorporate the best tool for each cutting conditionWork with third party providers to understand and maintain up to date technology in CAM, Post Processing, and supporting systemsDevelop and maintain database containing information based on actual cutting tool performance for engineering references. Research, develop, and perform machine test cuts for products not machined on SW machines including handgun frames, medical, and aerospace componentsPerform R&D to improve processes for strategic SW machined componentsWork with SWD CAM programming personnel to communize standard practices in programming. This includes travel to subsidiaries for learning and collaborationWhen needed will operate CNC machinery to set up the partsAid as needed in drawing changesAll other duties assigned Qualifications & Abilities:5 Year minimum CNC programming and operations exp.Must have 5+ years of experience in CAM softwareCAD software proficiency a plusMust have 5 axis experience also using post processorsStrong Siemens NX and/or Mastercam knowledge Must be resourceful, can provide clear and analytical thinking as well as an ability to problem solve and create effective strategiesMust have strong verbal and written communication skills
