Entry Level and Lateral Police Officer
Police Officer The Charter Township of Redford and the Redford Township Police and Fire Civil Service Commission are accepting lateral transfer applications for the position of Police Officer for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list. A lateral transfer candidate shall transfer directly into the established wage scale, based on the number of prior years of service. Starting - $60,6311 Years - $65,6832 Years - $70,7363 Years - $76,631Top base rate pay in 2025 is: $84,210The Minimum Qualifications as approved by the Charter Township Police and Fire Civil Service Commission, are: • 21 years old, 20.5 years old to apply • 60 credit hours of college OR 3 years Military service with Honorable Discharge OR 4 years paid law enforcement experience OR 3 years' experience as a Redford Township Police Department Cadet • MCOLES certified OR MCOLES certifiable • Possess or eligible to possess a CPL in Michigan • Good driving record • Be of good moral character • Top base rate pay in 2025 is: $77,929 $4,500 Bonus Pay each year for three years 2022 through 2024 ($13,500 total paid) 3% Incentive pay Gun & Uniform Allowances - $1,000 each 26 Vacation Days, 4 Personal Days, Sick Days, Paid Holidays Defined Benefit Pension w/ 5% contribution; 2.5% multiplier after 25 years Deferred Retirement Option Plan (D.R.O.P.) after 25 years Medical/Dental/Vision Coverage; 20% Employee Contribution 12 Hour shifts; 2-week cycle (5 and 2) College Tuition Reimbursement A "year of service" shall be defined as a minimum of 2,080 hours worked in either road patrols or investigations only. Any law enforcement experience outside of these two areas shall not be considered toward lateral transfer status. Years of service with another community shall not count towards Township seniority, longevity pay, nor retirement. Only completed applications will be considered. Additionally, you must pass the written test with EMPCO, Inc. and have selected Redford Township on the EMPCO website. As necessary, candidates meeting all testing and application requirements will be invited to interview by an oral board. Candidates should also be prepared to undergo a comprehensive background investigation, complete a physical with drug screen and psychological examination. Chosen applicants must meet all MCOLES requirements, complete a Field Training Program and a one-year probationary period.
