Job TitleSenior Mechanical Design Engineer – Nuclear EnergyLocation: Remote Travel: Occasional travel (approximately once per year) within the U.S. and Canada.Work Schedule: Flexible working hours between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST.Employment Type: ContractPay Rate: $100-105 (depending on experience)About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support advanced nuclear energy projects involving reactor systems and mechanical component design. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders to develop, analyze, and support the design, manufacturing, testing, and procurement of critical mechanical components used in nuclear power applications.This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong experience in nuclear mechanical design, pressure vessels, reactor internals, and ASME code compliance. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop mechanical components for advanced nuclear energy systems.Create and refine design concepts, specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.Provide engineering support throughout procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, installation, and testing activities.Perform engineering calculations, design analyses, and mechanical modeling.Lead technical design reviews and present engineering solutions to project teams and stakeholders.Collaborate with project managers, sourcing teams, suppliers, fabricators, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.Ensure designs comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulatory guidelines.Identify technical risks and implement effective engineering solutions.Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.Support product development while maintaining quality, cost, and schedule objectives.Work with manufacturing partners to resolve technical issues and improve product performance.Prepare technical reports and engineering documentation.Support innovation initiatives through engineering improvements and invention disclosures where applicable.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university (or equivalent relevant experience).Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering within the energy industry (nuclear industry preferred).Minimum 2 years in a technical leadership or program leadership role.Experience working with customers, suppliers, and regulatory organizations.Strong understanding of mechanical component design and engineering principles.Technical SkillsMust Have3D Computer Aided Design (CAD)ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel (BPV) CodeBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experienceNice to HaveNuclear Reactor DesignPreferred QualificationsExtensive experience designing mechanical components for nuclear power systems.Experience supporting technical reviews, procurement, fabrication, and product development.Strong knowledge of applicable industry standards such as ASME, AWS, and related nuclear engineering codes.Experience with Boiling Water Reactors (BWR), Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR), Small Modular Reactors (SMR), or similar nuclear technologies.Experience with sodium fast reactor technology.Knowledge of reactor internals, control rod drive systems, or nuclear fuel systems.Familiarity with lifting and rigging equipment design, load path analysis, and safety factors.Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment and implementing engineering improvements.Knowledge of fabrication methods including machining, welding, EDM, and material selection.Familiarity with Lean engineering principles.Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor (3D CAD).Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS.Additional InformationRemote opportunity with flexible working hours.Candidates are not required to be located in the Eastern Time Zone.Limited travel may be required for project meetings and site visits.Applicants must be eligible to work on projects subject to U.S. export control regulations.
