This role promotes residents' emotional, physical, cognitive, and social well-being through person-centered activities and supportive interactions designed to enhance quality of life and maintain dignity. This position works primarily within a memory care setting in a continuing care retirement community, assisted living community, or skilled nursing environment. The role requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to respond calmly to changing resident needs and behaviors.The coordinator will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure residents needs are being met.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize, and implement daily engagement programs and special events for memory care residentsDevelop activities that support cognitive stimulation, sensory engagement, physical movement, social interaction, and emotional wellnessLead both group and individualized programs based on resident abilities and interestsMaintain a monthly activity calendar that reflects resident-centered programmingEncourage resident participation while respecting personal choice and comfort levelsUtilize reminiscence therapy, music, art, sensory experiences, life skills activities, and therapeutic recreation techniquesCollaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to support resident care plans and behavioral interventionsCommunicate with families regarding resident participation and engagement opportunitiesPrepare activity areas and ensure supplies and materials are organized and availableDocument participation, attendance, and resident responses as required by community policiesMaintain a calm, positive, and supportive environment for residents and team membersFollow all safety, infection control, and regulatory guidelinesQualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, gerontology, social work, or related field preferredExperience working with older adults, dementia care, or memory support programming requiredStrong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to lead groups and adapt activities to varying cognitive and physical abilitiesCompassionate, patient, and creative approach to resident engagementBasic computer and documentation skillsLicensureValid Virginia Drivers License; CPR and First Aid certified
