Statewide opportunities are available.Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.This position is available in multiple locations within North Carolina and can be discussed with the hiring manager during an interview.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerform inspection of contractor's operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specificationsSupervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the projectMeasure and track quantities of pay itemsGather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diariesInteract with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issuesPerform other related duties as assignedRequired SkillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsMust successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screeningRequired ExperienceAssociate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceActive driver's licenseExperience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plansExperience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problemsThorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard DrawingsNCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferredExperience with local clients preferredWorking ConditionsWork is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
