The Building Center, Inc.Title: Yard SpecialistReports to: Operations ManagerFLSA Status: Hourly, Non-ExemptDivision: Monroe, NCSummary:This position involves maintaining the organization of the yard, which includes loading and unloading materials, managing inventory, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The Yard Worker will be responsible for operating various equipment and vehicles, contributing to the overall productivity of the warehouse. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve any issues that may arise. Ultimately, the Yard Worker helps to facilitate the timely movement of goods, which is essential for meeting customer demands and maintaining operational excellence.Job Duties:Pulls orders for deliveryUnloads incoming trucksReceives material from vendorsConduct regular inventory checks and report discrepancies to managementAssist in preparation of shipments by ensuring that all items are properly packaged and labeledFollow all safety protocols and guidelinesCleans and organizes lumber yardAssists walk-in customers with loading of vehiclePerforms pre-shift checklist of forkliftPerforms other duties, as assignedQualifications & Requirements:Forklift experience preferredAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsAbility to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructionsAbility to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situationsEducation/Experience:High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, and balance. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; and vibration.
