Click here to readGENERAL OBJECTIVES:Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, this position performs a variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws and prevention of crimes. Officers will protect life and property; control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; provide a high level of customer service and integrate activities and programs; and perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services.QUALIFICATIONS:* Ten years of full-time, paid peace officer experience. Prior police experience on college or University campus preferred* A high school/GED. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in law enforcement or related field preferred, but notrequiredValid TX Driver's LicenseMust hold a valid Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLEMinimum of Intermediate Certificate issued by TCOLEMust be able to work day, evening and overnight shifts with varied days offSubmit to a thorough background investigationAbility to pass required test that may include medical, psychological, and polygraph examsExcellent oral and written communication skillsRESPONSIBILITIES:These essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis: In order to accomplish this, regular attendance MUST be maintained. Incumbent is expected to perform other related duties, as assigned.Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner.Enforces State, Federal, traffic laws and University rules and regulations by patrolling and protecting the University, its faculty, staff, visitors and property; recognizing violations and citing or making arrests of individuals for violations.Coordinates crime scenes and preliminary investigations by responding to residential and campus incidents, reports of crimes or suspicious activities, arresting suspects and violators, then securing the scene, maintaining logs, observing and collecting evidence, assisting victims and writing necessary reports.Monitors traffic on campus by responding to traffic accidents, initiating routine traffic stops, enforcing traffic laws, providingescorts and protection to guests and dignitaries.* Participates in necessary court procedures by testifying in criminal, civil and juvenile cases, signing complaints and reviewingand signing affidavits.Performs numerous civic duties by maintaining positive relationships with the University community and other law enforcement agencies, transports victims and suspects, maintains police equipment, problem-solves with University students, faculty and staff, and performs community services.Increases job proficiency by conducting and participating in a variety of training programs and staying abreast of new innovations and developments in the field of law enforcement and investigation.Provides specialized services by performing specific duties related to assigned specialized unit and critical incidents.
