Maintenance Technician I (Pool)
Definition & PurposeThe Maintenance Technician I (Pool) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Recreation Center Aquatic Center and Anderson Aquatic Center, encompassing four pools and adjacent pool deck areas. This position performs routine and preventative maintenance to ensure water quality, mechanical system performance, regulatory compliance, and overall facility safety and readiness.This position is based at the Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA.RequirementsEducational/License/Credential RequirementsHigh school diploma, GED or equivalentMust hold a CA Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to ASI insurance underwritersCurrent American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in the following: Adult First Aid, CPR, and AED is required within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI. Current Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate or equivalent required within 60 days of hireScuba certification required within 90 days of hireExperience RequirementsMinimum two (2) years of experience, three (3) years preferred, maintaining a large facility that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the jobKnowledge/Skill RequirementsGeneral knowledge of aquatic facility operations, including water quality management and regulatory complianceAbility to perform routine inspection, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of pool and facility systemsAbility to manage workload effectively in a changing operational environment. Effective communication skills to collaborate with maintenance, aquatics, and facility staff. Ability to work independently while collaborating as part of a team. Ability to use computerized work order systems to document and track work. Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds in weightAbility to safely handle pool chemicalsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods in an outdoor environment and perform physically demanding manual laborEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPool Operations Conduct daily water chemistry testing and make routine chemical adjustments to ensure compliance with AFO standards.
