About the RoleThe Frieze Data team plays a central role in powering insight, operations, and decision-making across a dynamic and globally recognised art business. As a Junior Data Engineer, you'll join a collaborative and evolving team responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing a sophisticated data ecosystem that supports a wide range of stakeholders and data sources.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-moving environment where curiosity, technical capability, and a hands-on mindset are highly valued. Ranges will be discussed transparently during the interview process.What Success Looks LikeYou contribute to the reliability and performance of our data pipelines by proactively monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving issues, ensuring data is consistently available for business-critical use.You take ownership of improving existing processes. This means identifying inefficiencies, optimising performance, and helping reduce processing times across pipelines and scripts.You support the evolution of Frieze's data ecosystem by helping design and deliver scalable data solutions that make complex datasets easier to ingest, transform, and use.You demonstrate curiosity and initiative by learning quickly, asking the right questions, and actively contributing to team problem-solving in a fast-evolving environment.You collaborate effectively within the data team and, where needed, with stakeholders to deliver solutions that are robust, maintainable, and aligned with business needs.What You'll OwnSupporting and maintaining Python-based ETL processes, including monitoring scheduled jobs, identifying failures, and resolving data flow issues efficiently.Assisting in the development and optimisation of data pipelines, with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.Helping transform manual or repetitive processes into automated workflows to improve data integrity and reduce operational overhead.Working with a variety of data formats (e.g. CSV, JSON, XML, XLSX) across ingestion, transformation, and downstream use cases.Contributing to pipeline maintenance, issue resolution, and ongoing improvements to ensure stable and high-quality data delivery.Supporting integration with APIs and other external data sources as part of ETL workflows.What You BringCore requirements:Proficiency in Python as a core language for data processing and pipeline developmentUnderstanding of relational databases and data warehousing conceptsKnowledge of SQL for querying and manipulating dataFamiliarity with APIs and ETL concepts, including how data is ingested, transformed, and loaded across systemsAn analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot issues, optimise performance, and improve existing processesAdditional experience:Awareness of non-relational databases and NoSQL architecturesExperience working with multiple data formats such as JSON, XML, CSV, and Excel filesExposure to monitoring and maintaining production data pipelines or scriptsFamiliarity with data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BIExperience with tools like Google Analytics or Google Tag ManagerNice to have:Experience collaborating with stakeholders or supporting business-facing data needsAn understanding of how data engineering supports reporting and analytics workflowsExposure to managing or integrating third-party data tools or platforms.Benefits and PerksHybrid work environment (blend of in-office and at-home days)Pension match and access to a bespoke pension schemeEmployee Assistance ProgrammeEnhanced gyms, wellness and financial wellbeing apps access via WellhubFlexible Paid Time OffMARI believes in the power of live experiences to unite people — and we know that can only be achieved when we reflect the full diversity of the world around us.
