Pathology Assistant Location: Washington, DC Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $3,313 per week Shift Information: Days - 5 days x 8 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 4/6/2026 About the Position Job Title: Pathology Assistant Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Anatomic Pathology / Pediatric Pathology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (08:00 - 17:00) Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty License: Valid State License required Certifications: PA (ASCP) certified or eligible Must-Have: - Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) - Experience with pediatric pathology Description: The Pathologist Assistant will perform various duties in the evaluation and processing of patient specimens. They will operate various autopsy and laboratory equipment such as autopsy saws, cameras, processors, cryostats, computers, and dictation equipment. Responsibilities include performing post-mortem examinations or assisting in autopsy procedures. The assistant will make and close incisions, eviscerate organs, and collect specimens under the direction of a pathologist. They will also process surgical specimens, including proper labeling, fixation, and decalcification per established protocols. The position involves performing fine needle aspiration and bone marrow specimen preparation procedures. The assistant will be responsible for collecting samples for specialized studies, research, toxicology, and microbiology assays. They will independently perform simple and complex dissection with appropriate dictation based on department guidelines. Additional duties include preparing frozen sections, including cryostat microtomy, staining, coverslipping, and labeling.
