Summary:
Manage the construction activities of major capital projects to ensure that they are completed per specifications, within budget, and on time. Supervise maintenance superintendents and contract construction inspectors in the performance of their duties. Overall responsibility for ensuring that construction projects meet quality, safety and productivity objectives.
Responsibilities:
Manages construction activities of major projects ranging from $1MM to $100MM. Manages projects concurrently as needed. Provides construction oversight for all associated field activities.
Supervises and monitors contract construction inspectors and company personnel to ensure that work is performed safely, productively, and according to project specifications and documents.
Selects and hires contract construction inspectors where required.
Provides direct supervision of maintenance superintendents in the performance of their duties.
Supplies training and tools to advance their technical knowledge and development.
Ensures that the highest safety and environmental standards are maintained at all times and that all company and contractor personnel are in compliance. Makes certain that all construction and quality control procedures are followed.
Ensures use of good engineering practices throughout the construction phase.
Leads construction kickoff meetings and other construction meetings as necessary.
Support the Project Manager, engineering staff, and field personnel in the development and execution of plans for all field activities both during construction and startup. Review engineering project documents during design for constructability; ease of maintenance, and to meet construction/startup schedules. Estimate manpower and material requirements as required.
Organize and coordinate field activities as necessary to maintain construction schedule. Approve contractor time sheets, equipment time sheets, and rental equipment logs. Approve material requisitions as needed for construction activities. Control and minimize field change orders. Review and endorse field change order requests and other required contractor documentation.
Constantly monitor the construction plan and activities for opportunities to increase efficiency and cost effectiveness consistent with safety and work practices. Identify and lead improvement initiatives.
Establish and supervise punch list procedures. Schedule and mitigate Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR). Work closely with operating and maintenance personnel to achieve an organized startup. Turn the completed facilities over to operations in a controlled, cost effective, and safe manner.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years of related construction/maintenance or pipeline and terminal operating experience required
Supervisory experience required
All requirements for a Maintenance Superintendent apply
Excellent written and oral communications necessary to interact with external and internal customers
Must be able to work independently
Some travel required
