Controller – Philadelphia Office (On-Site)Rawle & Henderson LLP, a leading civil litigation firm with offices across the Mid-Atlantic region, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controller to lead the firm’s accounting and financial operations. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer/Executive Director and works closely with firm leadership to support the financial integrity, operational efficiency, and long-term profitability of the firm.This is a fully on-site position based in our Philadelphia headquarters.Position OverviewThe Controller will oversee all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities for the firm. The ideal candidate will bring significant law firm experience, a strong understanding of partnership accounting and tax, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to financial management.Key ResponsibilitiesWorking in close collaboration with firm leadership and the Accounting, Finance, Billing, and Collections teams, the Controller will:Financial Operations & ReportingOversee all general ledger activity, including month-end and year-end close processesEnsure timely and accurate financial reporting and analysisMaintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policiesManage reconciliations of all firm, trust, and escrow accountsBudgeting, Forecasting & StrategyPartner with the Chief Operating Officer to lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecastingMonitor firm performance against budget and strategic objectivesDevelop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) at both firm and client levelsProvide financial insights related to profitability, realization, utilization, and cash flowBuild financial models to support strategic decision-makingFirm Performance & ProfitabilityCollaborate with firm leadership to evaluate and improve financial performanceAnalyze billing, collections, work-in-process, and client profitabilityIdentify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and marginsSystems & Process ImprovementManage and optimize accounting and time & billing systemsEvaluate and implement enhancements to financial systems and reporting toolsWork cross-functionally to streamline workflows and improve data integrityTax, Audit & ComplianceOversee partnership tax planning and reportingSupport the firm’s annual audit and serve as liaison to external auditorsEnsure compliance with applicable financial and regulatory requirementsPayroll & Cash ManagementOversee payroll processing and reporting (ADP preferred)Monitor daily cash position, banking activity, and line of creditManage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planningAccounts PayableOversee accounts payable operations, including vendor management and payment processingQualificationsKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong working knowledge of partnership accounting and tax requirements preferredProficiency in technical accounting research and applicationAdvanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and financial modelingExperience with accounting and financial systems (Aderant strongly preferred)Experience with payroll systems (ADP preferred)Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration requiredCPA preferred but not requiredSignificant progressive law firm accounting experience, including leadership role as a ControllerFamiliarity with legal applications and matter-centric platforms is a plusWhy Join UsAt Rawle & Henderson LLP, we are committed to excellence in client service and operational performance.
