Director of Teaching and Learning

Full Year- 261 DaysThe Director of Teaching & Learning (Director) is responsible for providing leadership and management of programs and initiatives to improve adult learning and teaching, and student learning, across the district. Duties associated with this position include: provision of data for administrators and staff to analyze and improve instruction and achievement; coordination of curriculum development; coordination of professional development and educator collaboration; accountability for monitoring and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations; preparation of grants; and expenditure of funds.The Director will assume direct accountability for district results related to Title I, teaching certification and effectiveness, curriculum, oversight of building level implementation of RTI efforts, professional development, and oversight of the analysis and dissemination of standardized test results. The Director will assist the superintendent in the development, interpretation and implementation of school district policies and procedures.Under the direct supervision and with delegated authority of the Superintendent of Schools, performs the following essential functions:Leads development, selection, implementation, and evaluation of new curricula, curriculum materials, and instructional programs.Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain and revise curriculum documents.Administers Title I and other appropriate curriculum-related grant areas.Keeps the district updated regarding all information, research, legislation and resources from DESE and the federal government related to Title I, teacher certification, school accountability, and effective instruction.Seeks out and shares opportunities to obtain grant funding for identified needs around curriculum, instruction, assessment or professional development.Keeps knowledgeable of, and provides administrators with, research based strategies to ensure academic achievement, including best practices in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and educator collaboration.Works with administration and faculty to evaluate assessment processes for learning outcomes and program effectiveness, review and analyze assessment results, and coordinate implementation of changes as a result of these processes.Coordinates professional development plans, both in terms of strategic planning and managing details of specific trainings, meetings, and events.Coordinate and, at times, facilitate collaborative educator work and learning. Attends and may facilitate or co-facilitate elementary team leader and secondary curriculum coordinator meetings.Demonstrates awareness of community-district needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.Supports the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement at the school and district level.Reviews and approves home school plans submitted by district familiesProjects a positive image to the community.Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.Qualifications:1.Position requires a master's degree and licensure as director/supervisor or assistant superintendent / superintendent or is actively pursuing this licensure.2.Extensive experience in teaching, instructional coaching, and administration.3.Successful leadership experience in PreK-12 standards-based curriculum development, differentiated instruction and effective school research.4.Demonstrated skills that address the professional standards for administrators as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.5.Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate professional development.6.Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate leadership, direction and guidance to teaching and administrative staff.7.Ability to work independently in formulating decisions, interpreting policies and procedures and the ability to complete multiple tasks and to set priorities.8.Ability to provide accurate reports and pay considerable attention to detail.9.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.10.Skilled in establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and the ability to maintain objectivity and fairness in dealing with people.Physical Requirements:Minimal physical effort is required to perform the duties under typical office conditions.
