Job Title: Scientist I – Gene Therapy Nanotechnology (LNP & Bioconjugation) Location: San Diego, CA, Onsite (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM PT) Employment Type: Contract on W2 About the RoleJoin a cutting-edge gene therapy nanotechnology team focused on advancing targeted delivery platforms. This role is centered on designing and developing ligand conjugates and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) systems for nucleic acid delivery. You will play a hands-on role in bioconjugation chemistry, nanoparticle formulation, and analytical characterization to support next-generation therapeutics. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, execute, and optimize bioconjugation reactions (antibodies, peptides with small molecules or polymers) Prepare and purify conjugates using LC-TOF and ÄKTA systemsFormulate targeted and non-targeted lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating nucleic acids Utilize microfluidic or T-junction mixing for LNP formulation Perform surface conjugation for targeted delivery systems Conduct analytical characterization using DLS, Zeta potential, RiboGreen assaysSupport assay development (BLI, fluorescence microscopy, chromatography) Evaluate stability and performance of ligands and nanoparticles Maintain electronic lab notebooks and document SOPs Required QualificationsMS + 2 years or BS + 5 years in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field Strong hands-on experience in bioconjugation chemistry and reaction optimizationExperience with lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation and characterizationProficiency in DLS, Zeta potential, RiboGreen assaysExperience with purification tools such as ÄKTA or chromatography systemsSolid understanding of reaction kinetics and biomolecular interactionsProficiency in MS ExcelPreferred QualificationsExperience in Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) developmentExposure to microfluidics-based nanoparticle formulationFamiliarity with analytical tools such as Prism or JMPExperience working with RNA/mRNA or nucleic acid delivery systems
