The Teacher is responsible for delivering individualized, standards-based instruction in a therapeutic educational setting. This role involves developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), managing classroom behavior, and creating a safe, supportive environment for students with diverse learning needs. The teacher collaborates with families, paraprofessionals, and support teams to promote academic and personal growth, while ensuring compliance with all educational and agency guidelines.
Key Responsibilities – Special Education Teacher
Provide differentiated instruction aligned to Common Core Standards in a therapeutic school environment.
Develop, implement, and maintain lesson and unit plans for all assigned courses.
Create and sustain a safe, clean, and organized classroom conducive to learning.
Develop, manage, and facilitate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students, including compliance with timelines and stakeholder communication.
Complete required academic documentation (e.g., report cards, IEP updates, progress reports) in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate effectively with parents/guardians to support student academic and behavioral growth.
Administer assessments to inform and guide instructional planning.
Guide and supervise classroom paraprofessionals to ensure effective student engagement and achievement.
Participate in school committees, improvement efforts, and extracurricular activities such as clubs or after-school events.
Provide instruction during summer school, if assigned.
Attend required staff trainings, meetings, and agency events in alignment with professional expectations.
