Embedded Software EngineerEaton's Power Components Division is currently seeking an Embedded Software Engineer. This is a hybrid position (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week) based at our Moon Township, PA location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What You'll Do:As an embedded software engineer, you will work with global engineering teams to design and develop the firmware for our next generation control and monitoring systems integrated with Eaton's Circuit Breaker product offerings. Responsibilities include design and development of embedded software, supporting the resolution of production, product quality, customer application issues and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.The individual will work closely with other firmware engineers, Hardware and Test team members across the globe, interacts with other functional groups like mechanical, industrialization and production in meeting new product development and product line support objectives.Key Responsibilities:Perform complex embedded firmware design, development and testing tasksPlans work in detail at individual level, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development teamReview own work as well as others work in formal design and quality reviewsTests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goalsDevelops a high level of technical expertise in embedded software design and over time becomes a subject matter expert.Performs and contributes to technical research and investigationsAddress product quality, customer and production issues in a timely manner, collaborating with other functional groups as necessarySupport and develop test suite tools for verification and stress testingParticipate in process improvementQualifications:Required (Basic) Qualifications:Bachelor's degree Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institutionMinimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in embedded software development including multi controller systems (C/C++, RTOS) and low-level hardware interfaces (ADC, PWM, UART, SPI, I2C)Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institutionDeep technical knowledge of microcontroller device drivers. Experience writing drivers from scratch or significantly modifying manufacturer libraries for I2C, SPI, UART, and memory devices.Experience in Agile development methodologies, CI/CD, and automated testing toolsA deep appreciation for robust source control management.Hands-on experience with black box, white box, and unit testing protocols.Working knowledge of cybersecurity standards and functional safety requirements.Experience investigating and resolving complex system-level issues while interfacing with multidisciplinary teams.Familiarity with multitasking firmware concepts, ideally using Zephyr RTOS.Experience with communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, MQTT)Experience with safety-critical applications (UL, IEC).Experience with scripting and testing suite creations using bash and python.Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems using JTAG and In-Circuit Emulators (ICE)Skills:Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.Strong problem-solving capabilities with a data-driven mindset.Ability to read schematics and operate Digital Oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for hardware validation.A passion for creating innovative, scalable, and reusable designs.Commitment to modern software engineering practices and process optimization.High proficiency in documentation control and technical writing ideally using Atlassian Confluence.
