Check out the Pregis Purpose to learn how sustainability and social responsibility is at the very core of our company DNA.About the roleReporting to the New Product Development (NPD) Controls Manager, the Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of control systems for packaging machinery. Key responsibilities include developing and documenting PLC, HMI, and motion control solutions in new equipment designs as well as upgrading and modifying existing systems. The Senior Controls Engineer provides ongoing technical support and troubleshooting to systems, service and manufacturing teams.The NPD team is composed of engineering professionals in Aurora. If you're looking to be part of a dynamic and purpose-driven organization, Pregis could be the right fit for you.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and build prototype control systems for packaging machineryDevelop schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOM's for control systemsSelect hardware components and apply principles of panel and electrical control system design to panel layout, wiring and safety controlsDevelop and implement PLC, HMI, and motion control programs for new machinery.Modify and upgrade existing control systems to improve performance and functionality.Document system architecture, software, and theory of operations.Create complete drawing package for production including manufacturing guides, calibration procedures and start-up proceduresDevelop HMI's for best-in-class user experienceProvide troubleshooting and support for controls-related issues on the production floorCollaborate with engineering peers, machine builders, enterprise engineering, and procurement.Participate in system testing, validation, and prototyping activities primarily based in Aurora, ILSkills RequiredSolid understanding of PLCs, and PLC programming including Codesys.Solid knowledge of HMI and SCADA design, C#/WPF experience a plus.Knowledge or experience with IEC 61131-3, Ladder Logic and Structured TextExperience with Version Control including GitExperience with electrical controls CAD design - AutoCAD Electrical preferred.Mastery of servo motion control, industrial protocols and sensorsKnowledge or experience with Object Oriented Programming principles.Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skillsRequires superior interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with employees, staff, management, etc.Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.Ability to operate within a team atmosphere, shift priorities and effectively perform under pressure.Duties and Responsibilities50% - Design, modify, test and troubleshoot new and existing systems including HMI and PLC software and electrical layout and documentation.25% - Document and develop new applications from the beginning of the development lifecycle through implementation.20% - Assist internal and external customers with operational support.5% - Create documentation of existing systems.Performs other job-related duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceBachelors' degree (EE or Programming)6+ years related experienceProven ability to document designs and work with manufacturingCompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis' total compensation package. The base pay range for this role is estimated to be between the low $100,000s to $150,000, depending on experience and skills.Compensation details listed in US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits.
