Position Summary UTHealth is seeking a detail-driven Supervisor for Insurance Authorization Verification to support patient access across our clinical practices. The role focuses on verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, and confirming patient benefits to ensure accurate billing and a smooth care experience. Responsibilities include communicating with payers, documenting approvals in UTHealth systems, and resolving coverage discrepancies in collaboration with clinical and administrative teams. The supervisor also manages staff, monitors performance, and is responsible for audit workflows and documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement. Strong accuracy, professionalism, and familiarity with healthcare insurance processes are essential to supporting UTHealth's mission of high-quality patient care. Location: Remote (2- 4 weeks onsite for training, 1851 Crosspoint Ave, 77054) Must be able to attend any required onsite meetings Must live in Texas (TX). This is a Remote position, and you must reside in Texas We DO NOT provide lodging or mileage reimbursement for training Responsible for the pre-arrival/authorization process for assigned departments, and oversees and ensures the accuracy of data submitted to payors, completeness of insurance claims, and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations applicable to professional billing collections. Position Key Accountabilities Performs audit denial review to ensure internal policies and procedures are followed. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and that commercial payer guidelines are followed. Provides day-to-day oversight and supervision of assigned staff. Sets performance goals for assigned staff, monitors their work performance and attendance. Provides coaching to assigned staff and conducts weekly team meetings. Ensures that the staff is adequately trained to meet work volumes and identifies deficiencies to ensure employees receive additional training as necessary. Promotes, and maintains, positive relationships with both internal and external customers. Maintains confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA regulations and University policy, with patients and commercial insurance carriers regarding sensitive data and financial affairs. Identifies and assesses relevant regulatory changes to ensure policies and procedures remain compliant with federal and state law. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: None Minimum Education Associate's Degree in Business or equivalent required May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement. Minimum Experience 3 years of experience working with various insurance companies, and extensive knowledge of billing and collections for various types of commercial and governmental plans required 2 years of experience in Patient Access or Revenue Cycle operations preferred 1 year of experience in a leadership role preferred Physical Requirements Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
