Embedded Software Engineer, OS/Platform (Starshield)
Overview
As an Embedded Software Engineer on the Starshield program, you will develop and maintain Linux-based satellite and ground software, from boot loaders to mission-critical logic. You will work closely with Silicon, Electrical, and Software engineers to bring hardware from prototype to on-orbit operations. You will build and test OS/platform infrastructure and device drivers, emphasizing security, determinism, and high performance. This role offers hands-on hardware interaction, fast iteration, and impact on national-security focused space systems. You will join a mission-driven team delivering secure communications and reliable information delivery for critical partners.

ResponsibilitiesMaintain in-house OSS branches (Linux, Buildroot, u-boot) and support secure bootManage spacecraft Ethernet network and connectivityDevelop, deploy, and test software update processes for spacecraftSupport lifecycle of in-house SoC and peripheralsMaintain OS/Platform test infrastructure and develop drivers for componentsIntegrate new satellite components and collaborate with hardware engineersInterface with Silicon, Electrical, and Software teams to move hardware to on-orbit operations
Key requirementsBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; or 2+ years of software development experienceDevelopment experience in C, C++, Python, or Rustability to work effectively in a dynamic environmentcollaborative cross-team communicationproblem-solving orientationExperience developing in the Linux kernelNetworking protocols (TCP, UDP)Computer architecture and secure boot flows
