Assembly Supervisor

Job DescriptionFUNCTION:\nSupervises the assembly department by assigning tasks and providing resources to accomplish quality, productivity / efficiency, schedule, cost and employee relations goals. Uses technical knowledge and sound judgment to ensure key result areas are achieved and responsibilities are fulfilled.\n\nKEY RESULTS AREAS:\nProduct quality is assured by enforcing disciplines to standard operating procedures, frozen processes and elimination of variation / deviation from work instructions.\n\nWork efforts are productive and efficient through effective assignment of skilled resources.\nTo ensure employees understand and recognize they are important members of the team and are motivated to provide excellent quality, productivity, work ethic and continuous incremental improvement in work efforts, the supervisor will aid in the following:\n\n\nPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nMistakes and non-conformances to specifications are prevented by ensuring that SOP's are understood and followed.\nIntegrity of product is maintained by ensuring that all work instructions are correctly followed, and that all characteristics have been inspected and recorded according to the Operator Characteristics Claim Sheet.\nInvestigations are conducted, in conjunction with a quality team member, to determine the root cause of each discrepancy and how the discrepancy can be corrected. There must also be appropriate corrective action in place to prevent the discrepancy from recurring.\nWorks with employees, technical services and quality assurance to remove non-conformance risk and variation from programs, methods and processes.\nProactively plans and coordinates with the team to ensure material is staged prior to the scheduled operation start time.\nAssigns work and ensures each team member understands the task, the allotted standard time, and the manufacturing methods to be applied. Ensures resources are available to achieve routed standards and process plans.\nMonitors production progress to proactively identify and solve problems which may lead to work disruption, inefficiency and/or delay.\nActively participates in daily schedule and production coordination meetings and utilizes schedule information to assign people according to schedule needs. This may include the scheduling of overtime to achieve schedule and throughput goals.\nObserves work tasks to identify opportunities for efficiency improvement and eliminating areas of waste. Initiates action as necessary to implement the improvements.\nEmployees receive training in their main assignment and cross training where needed and as practicable to ensure they can contribute to multiple assignments when called upon to do so.\nPerformance appraisals are conducted on schedule and the appraisal is an objective overview of the employee's behavior relative to quality, productivity and following company policies, procedures and processes.\nRecognizes and praises employees verbally and in writing when exemplary / outstanding performance, commitment and results are demonstrated.\nInitiate disciplinary action as necessary according to established company policies and procedures while ensuring employees are treated consistently, fairly and with dignity and respect.\n\n\nREQUIRED EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:\n\nFive years of demonstrated supervisory experience in one or more of the following areas: mechanical assembly, testing, gas turbines, power generation.\nAerospace/defense program knowledge preferred.\nHigh school diploma required.\nMust be a US citizen.\nTechnical degree preferred.\n\n\nREQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:\n\nFive years (or internal equivalent) of progressive achievements in the area of manufacturing expertise.\nProven leadership skills and demonstrated ability to build consensus and gain followers.\nWell-developed verbal and written communication skills.\nExcellent organizational skills and attention to detail.\nExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.\nDemonstrated experience in effectively and efficiently providing direction to others.\nProven problem-solving skills with the ability to define and implement solutions through establishing an effective course of action.\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic time and labor tracking and reporting systems.\nThorough understanding or the ability to quickly learn production operations and machinery.\n\n\nRELATIONSHIPS:\n\nDevelop close working relationships with employees of production, quality, engineering, and purchasing departments.\nDemonstrate a strong sense of firm and fair leadership style with subordinates, being objective and consistent in all matters.\nDemonstrate a highly cooperative demeanor with other employees and willingly take the initiative to help others succeed.\n\n\nPHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:\n\nPhysical Demands\n\nMobility: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the production floor for extended periods (10 hours a day).\nManual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, or controls; ability to lift and handle parts and materials.\nLifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift, carry, and move items up to 50 pounds unassisted.\nVisual Acuity: Ability to inspect detailed assembly components, read blueprints, and identify potential defects.\nHearing: Adequate hearing ability to interact with team members, hear safety alarms, and operate machinery in a noisy environment.\nBending/Reaching: Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting to perform inspections, oversee assembly processes, and ensure safety compliance.\nSafety Awareness: Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes throughout the workday.\n\n\nMental Demands\n\nLeadership and Decision-Making: Ability to lead a team, make decisions quickly under pressure, and delegate tasks effectively to meet production goals and deadlines.\nProblem-Solving: Strong analytical skills required to troubleshoot assembly line issues, identify root causes of problems, and implement corrective actions.\nAttention to Detail: High level of accuracy and focus required to maintain quality standards, adherence to defense industry regulations, and prevent costly errors.\nMulti-Tasking: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, such as supervising assembly operations, coordinating schedules, and meeting production targets.\nStress Management: Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, especially when handling critical deadlines, production bottlenecks, or employee issues.\nCommunication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to provide clear instructions, give performance feedback, and report to senior management.\nCompliance Awareness: Familiarity with defense industry regulations and requirements (e.g., ITAR, quality standards) and the ability to ensure team compliance.\n\n
