Nature & Scope:Positional OverviewThe Imagine Group is recruiting for a Sr. Accountant on behalf of our client, a leading research and development organization, this not-for-profit in Buffalo, NY supports government and industry partners through advanced engineering, testing, and analytical services. The organization is known for its commitment to scientific excellence, collaboration, and mission-driven work.In this role you will be responsible for managing general ledger activities, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. You will analyze financial data, support audits, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain accurate reporting and drive informed decision-making. Employees are not required to contribute to the plan to receive company contribution.Health Insurance – No Waiting Period – competitive costs.Dental, Vision Insurance after 6 months – Employer paid benefit for employees and dependents.Life Insurance after 6 months – Employer paid benefit for the employee.Generous paid time off, unlimited sick time and 9 paid holidays.Role & Responsibility:Tasks That Will Lead to Your SuccessOwn general ledger accuracy, including detailed review of general ledger activity and account reconciliationsAssist with preparation and review all month-end journal entriesSupport monthly and year-end close processesLead tax compliance across all areas, including sales/use, state filings, and corporate taxesOversee state and local business registrations (including registrations driven by remote employees) and ensure ongoing complianceSupport DCAA/DCMA requests, incurred cost submissions, and internal/external auditsAssist with annual planning and budgeting processesProvide backup support across all accounting functions, as neededTake an active role in complex accounting transactions and technical accounting researchSkills & ExperienceQualifications That Will Help You ThriveBachelor’s degree in accounting4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a government contracting or public accounting environmentStrong understanding of general ledger GAAP accounting, cost accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the role.Preferred QualificationsCPA or CPA-eligible.Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP systems.Knowledge of payroll, federal, and/or state tax compliance requirements.
