CBC New Media GroupDurham, NC, USAPosted on Apr 8, 2026Apply nowOverviewWe are looking for a dedicated and energetic Bat Person to support the team by ensuring a smooth and efficient game-day experience. In this role, you will be responsible for handling bats, retrieving equipment, and assisting players and coaches during games. This position is paid an hourly wage, plus is eligible to receive customary gratuities (tips) from players, coaches, and staff. This position requires attention to detail, quick reflexes, and a passion for baseball. This is a part-time, seasonal, game day position.Key Responsibilities And Essential FunctionsRetrieve bats, helmets, and other equipment from the field during games.Ensure bats, helmets, and other gear are properly organized and available for players.Provide baseballs to umpires and assist with foul ball retrieval.Maintain cleanliness and organization in the dugout and bullpen areas.Assist with pre-game and post-game setup and cleanup.Work closely with team staff, players, and coaches to ensure smooth equipment operations.Follow all stadium and league safety protocols.Functional knowledge of baseball rules, gameplay, and basic equipmentOther duties as assigned.Required QualificationsAbility to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and supplies as needed.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Preferred QualificationsPrevious bat person experience is preferredPassion for baseball and understanding of team operations is highly preferredPhysical DemandsMust be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop for extended periods, often for the entire duration of a game day (which can exceed 8 hours)Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 poundsMust be able to safely navigate a crowded, busy clubhouse, dugout, and tunnel areas, including ascending/descending stairs, often while carrying itemsWork ConditionsThe role operates primarily in the team clubhouse, dugout, and tunnel areas.
