Seasonal Public Safety Technician I (Multi-PCN)

This opportunity is available in multiple locations across Alaska and is a full-time role. This recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze and is open exclusively to Alaska residents. Applicants must meet the Alaska residency requirement to be considered for employment. The salary varies based on the location of hire: $19.77 in Anchorage, Palmer, and Soldotna, and $20.36 in Fairbanks. The position is part of the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers. The Public Safety Technician I (Seasonal) performs technical level work in the prevention and detection of violations and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This role also involves semi-skilled work in remote field locations to ensure that mobile facilities and transportation equipment are operational, and assists Troopers with surveillance and patrol duties, evidence handling, and preservation. The Department of Public Safety strives to preserve peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers are responsible for the statewide patrol of commercial big game services, commercial fisheries, sport fishing, sport fish guiding, hunting, trapping, boating safety, and safeguarding habitat. As a Public Safety Technician, I (Seasonal), you will work in varying outdoor environmental conditions and some time in an office setting. You will also help with equipment inventory and perform general clerical duties as needed. To qualify for this position, you must be at least eighteen years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of employment, and have a current, valid Alaska Driver's License. Job duties require lifting and carrying loads weighing up to 70 pounds over rough or uneven surfaces. A background investigation, including a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes, will be conducted. Most positions are seasonal and may require work in remote sites where employees may quarter in bunkhouses, vessels, or tents. Employees must be available for recall to testify in court during the off season; if this occurs they will be compensated. A cover letter is not required for this position. This position requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, you may not hold this position. This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history background check. The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
