Employment Type: ContractDuration: 6 Months (possible extension)About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to provide engineering support for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Vacaville, CA. This role supports operations, maintenance, and capital projects within Utilities and Facilities Engineering.HVAC systems at this site are critical for controlling temperature, humidity, airflow, cleanliness, and pressure, directly impacting product quality and regulatory compliance in a GMP environment.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical and EngineeringDesign, review, and modify HVAC systems, including Air Handling Units (AHUs), ducting, airflow systems, heating, cooling, humidification, and filtrationPerform engineering calculations (airflow, load, pressure, energy)Ensure compliance with GMP, GEP, and site standards for controlled environmentsReview and approve HVAC-related drawings, specifications, and change recordsSupport system commissioning, qualification, and requalificationOperations SupportProvide troubleshooting support for HVAC system failures or deviationsAnalyze system performance issues such as airflow imbalance and temperature instabilityCollaborate with maintenance and operations teams to resolve issues in real timeParticipate in on-call or off-hours support when requiredAutomation and ControlsSupport HVAC systems integrated with Building Automation Systems (BAS), including monitoring alarms and trends, troubleshooting malfunctions, and implementing automation changesWork with BAS platforms such as Siemens Desigo for utility alarms and regulatory monitoringProjects and Continuous ImprovementLead or support capital projects and upgrades (retrofits, expansions, efficiency improvements)Identify energy and sustainability opportunities such as airflow optimization and heat recoverySupport retro-commissioning efforts to improve system performance and reliabilityAssist in developing and executing project scopes, timelines, and budgetsCompliance and DocumentationEnsure HVAC systems meet regulatory and quality requirements (FDA, GMP)Support audits, inspections, and deviation investigationsDevelop and maintain SOPs, engineering standards, change controls, and validation documentationProvide technical input for permits and safety reviewsQualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related fieldExperience3 to 8+ years of experience in HVAC engineering or utilities systemsExperience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated environments preferredSkills and CompetenciesStrong understanding of HVAC system design and operationKnowledge of cleanroom and controlled environmentsExperience with BAS/controls systemsStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilityAbility to manage multiple projects and prioritiesStrong collaboration skills with operations, quality, and maintenance teamsWork ScopeSupport site utilities including HVAC, chilled water, steam, and compressed air systemsPerform tasks such as airflow verification and requalification, equipment data management, and sustainability and energy improvement initiatives
