This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description.Duties And ResponsibilitiesEssential (Not Modifiable)Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to aseptic technique principles and practicesDemonstrates knowledge of sterilization principles and methodsAssists with patient care plan and implementation, utilizing knowledge of surgical techniques, procedures and physician preference guidelinesDemonstrates and monitors aseptic technique principle during preparation and maintenance of the sterile field, including scrubbed team membersValidates supply and instrument sterility which includes checking package, wrap or container integrity, chemical indicators and expiration datesUtilizes cost effective practices through judicious supply use and selective opening and/or preparation of surgeon preferencesMaintains accurate count of all sponges, needles, or other items to be counted before, during and at wound closurePerforms all tasks required of the scrub including but not limited to skin preparation; positioning assistance; gowning and gloving of self and others; draping; sterile field preparation; counts; preparation and passing of instruments, supplies, equipment; safe handling/disposition of sharps; accurate measuring of fluids on the sterile field; applies sterile dressing; safe disposal of drapes, sponges, sharps, instruments and liquid wasteCares for specimens in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to specimen handling, processing and accountabilityPrepares instruments and equipment for terminal cleaning and transports on case cart to SPDWillingly shares knowledge and skills with all other team membersNotifies SPD of malfunctioning or broken instruments or equipmentImplement adult learning theories when teaching surgical technologist roleSecondary (Modifiable)Attends educational and training seminars which further own knowledge and skill baseSupports and participates in new programs and/or plans for change which maintains or improves quality patient careOther duties as assignedAccommodationQualified applicants with disabilities may request reasonable accommodation during the application process by contacting Human Resources at 415-925-7040 or TalentAcquisition@mymarinhealth.org.C.A.R.E.S.
