RAIL TRACTION SUPERVISOR

Supervises personnel in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of traction power substations, power contact systems, tunnel ventilation systems, and tunnel lighting systems to help ensure smooth day-to-day operations and safety of rail transit.Recruitment Timelines: Written exam is projected to be scheduled for the week of April 13, 2026. We encourage you to monitor your governmentjobs.com profile and emails for the latest updates.Plans, organizes, and assigns repair and maintenance work of traction power systems and equipmentInvestigates, troubleshoots, and diagnoses traction power system and equipment problemsConducts inspections of equipment and traction power distribution facilitiesReviews and approves inspection reportsDevelops and administers preventive maintenance program; maintains tracking system of all repairs and maintenance work performed, inspections, and equipment and system performanceDevelops and administers staff training programsProvides input on design and maintenance of traction power systems for new rail projects to ensure compliance with operational needs and design standardsResponds to power distribution system emergencies and initiates repairs to ensure restoration of serviceIdentifies equipment and materials needed to maintain traction power system; initiates requisitions for parts, material, equipment, and outside labor procurement necessary to perform designated maintenanceProvides flagging assistance during revenue and non-revenue service periods to control local train movementAssists staff with repair and maintenance during revenue and non-revenue service periodsDeploys, mounts, and operates high-rail departmental equipment during revenue and non-revenue service hours adjacent to train movementUtilizes hand-held radios to effectively communicate with staff and direct equipment during revenue and non-revenue service periodsOversees and implements repairs to equipment and materials, which also includes external vendors and/or other parties who make repairs to revenue and non-revenue service equipmentProvides hands-on training to employees utilizing live equipment which supports revenue and non-revenue service periodsSupervises subordinateEnforces safety regulations and instructs subordinates on the use of safety devices and proceduresAccounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of Metro's safety rules, polices, and proceduresContributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried outMay be required to perform other related job dutiesA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
