Key Responsibilities of the Senior Construction Accountant
As a Senior Construction Accountant, you will:
Manage project-level accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
Partner with project managers to ensure billing accuracy and financial alignment
Prepare and submit monthly construction billing, including AIA-style billings
Monitor customer billing schedules and follow up on outstanding payments
Maintain job cost accounting, including setup of new projects and cost tracking
Review subcontractor invoices against committed costs and verify supporting documentation
Manage lien waivers, insurance requirements, and subcontractor compliance
Enter invoices, change orders, and schedules of values into the accounting system
Assist with service billing and subcontractor coordination
Review job cost reports and support cost-to-complete analysis with management
Provide backup support for payroll-related reporting (including certified payroll where needed)
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial processes
Support additional accounting and administrative functions as needed
Preferred Qualifications of the Senior Construction Accountant
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of experience as a Senior Construction Accountant or in a similar construction accounting role
Strong knowledge of job costing and construction billing processes
Experience with AIA billing strongly preferred
Familiarity with construction accounting systems (Sage 300 / Timberline or similar)
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines as a Senior Construction Accountant
