Contour Engineering is currently recruiting for a Civil Design Engineer II with preferably 3-7 years’ civil engineering professional design experience for both our Tacoma and Gig Harbor offices. We are looking for aggressive, self-motivated engineers aspiring to join an expanding engineering firm. The desired candidate will have an EIT license with the goal of obtaining a PE license in the future, proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, and has extensive experience in Civil design and development of construction documents. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working on diverse land development projects and is progressing toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.Design Engineers at Contour work as part of collaborative project teams and play a key role in developing high-quality engineering solutions and construction documents for a variety of project types.The following tasks will be performed by the Design Engineer: Prepare civil engineering designs for private development projects, including residential subdivisions, multifamily developments, commercial sites, mixed-use projects, and light industrial facilitiesDesign site grading, stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer, domestic water, fire lines, and private/public roadway improvementsPerform civil engineering calculations and assist in preparing construction plans, reports, exhibits, and technical memorandaDevelop subdivision layouts, site plans, utility plans, drainage reports, and stormwater analysesConduct quality control reviews of calculations and plan setsParticipate in design meetings and coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, clients, and reviewing agenciesAssist Project Engineers and Project Managers with project development, troubleshooting, and design refinementCompile and submit permit applications to local and state agencies, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standardsConsider construction costs, regulatory requirements, environmental constraints, and project risks during designPrepare construction cost estimates and engineering analysesUtilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other industry-standard design softwareUse of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.Perform additional duties as assigned to support project successQualificationsRequired:Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related fieldEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification3–7 years of relevant civil engineering design experienceProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3DExperience with civil site design, grading, utilities, and stormwater facilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlinesDetail-oriented with a practical, problem-solving mindsetAbility to work effectively both independently and within a project teamPreferred:Experience working with local jurisdictions in Western WashingtonFamiliarity with permitting processes and land use regulations Progress toward obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) licenseLocationWe have two locations in Pierce County. One in downtown Gig Harbor and one in downtown Tacoma. We are currently looking to fill this position in the both offices.
