The ideal candidate is a nurturing educator who understands the developmental needs of elementary learners and is excited to help spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and support scientific thinking.The Assistant Science Teacher will work closely with and under the guidance of the Lead Science Teacher to implement high-quality science instruction, prepare materials, support classroom management, and ensure a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment. Candidates should bring enthusiasm for science learning across disciplines—physical, environmental, life, earth, and space science—and an interest in learning and applying best practices in science education.About:Brawerman East Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) operating in the Erika J Glazer Campus in Mid-Wilshire, adjacent to the historic Magnin-Leder Sanctuary.Since its opening in 2011, Brawerman East has offered an outstanding academic program rooted in Jewish values that nurtures students' cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual lives. The elementary school is part of Wilshire Schools East, which also houses the Glazer Early Childhood Center.Duties and Responsibilities:Support the Lead Science Teacher in planning, preparing, and delivering hands-on, inquiry-based science lessons for Grades K–6Assist with preparing materials, setting up and breaking down labs, and organizing equipment and suppliesWork directly with students during lessons, small-group activities, and project work to reinforce concepts and guide explorationHelp differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learnersSupport classroom management by ensuring students feel safe, supported, and ready to learnMaintain an organized, welcoming, and functional science classroom and lab spaceUse technology and inquiry-based tools to enhance instruction when appropriateCommunicate effectively with the Lead Science Teacher and other faculty regarding student needs and progressAssist with school-wide curriculum integration, science events, and special projectsPerform supervisory duties (recess, lunch, etc.) and additional responsibilities as assignedQualifications & Skills:Bachelor’s degree (BS) in a science or related field Experience working with children in an educational settingInterest in science teaching, curriculum, and hands-on learningFamiliarity with or willingness to learn the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skillsOrganized, flexible, and eager to learnDemonstrated enthusiasm for working as part of a teaching teamCompensation: $40,000 to $45,000, based on experience and qualifications Salary is based on employment from mid-August to mid-June, paid over twelve monthsLunch is provided to faculty on school daysCompetitive benefits packageRobust professional development opportunitiesPhysical Demands and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
