Associate Engineer

*Title: Associate Engineer (Electrical Engineering)* *Client: Utility Client* *Location: Cleveland, OH (Onsite)* *Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire* *Duration: 12-Months* *Pay: $35/hr+* *ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY* Brooksource is seeking an Associate Engineer to support a confidential utility client’s planning and protection organization. This team is responsible for ensuring the electric distribution system remains reliable, safe, and capable of supporting future growth. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates and early-career engineers who are interested in power systems, utility operations, and critical infrastructure. The organization is committed to developing the next generation of utility engineers, providing hands-on mentorship and coaching from experienced engineers and supervisors. Engineers in this role will gain exposure to power system planning, grid modernization initiatives, reliability studies, and distribution system operations. *WHAT YOU'LL DO* · Support planning and analysis activities for electric distribution systems. · Perform load growth studies to evaluate the impact of new residential, commercial, and industrial development on the electrical grid. · Analyze distribution feeder and substation capacity, voltage performance, and system reliability. · Utilize utility modeling and engineering software to evaluate system performance and identify improvement opportunities. · Develop engineering recommendations for infrastructure upgrades and reliability improvements. · Collaborate with senior engineers, operations teams, and field personnel to support system planning and project execution. · Support grid modernization and electrification initiatives, including EV charging infrastructure and emerging load requirements. · Assist with outage analysis and reliability improvement efforts. · Participate in storm response activities and support system restoration efforts when needed. · Prepare technical reports, study results, and engineering documentation. *WHAT YOU BRING* * Bachelor's degree in *Electrical Engineering* or *Electrical Engineering Technology* from an ABET-accredited institution required. * *0-2 years of professional engineering experience* (internships, co-ops, research, or project experience encouraged). * Strong interest in the utilities, energy, or power delivery industry. * Exposure to power systems, electrical distribution, protection and controls, or utility operations is a plus. * Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam completion is a plus. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate technical information clearly. * Self-motivated, eager to learn, and interested in building a career supporting critical infrastructure. * Willingness to travel locally as needed and support occasional storm restoration activities. *PREFERRED BACKGROUND* * Power Systems coursework * Utility-focused internships or co-ops * Knowledge of electrical distribution systems * Experience with engineering modeling or analysis software * Interest in renewable energy, grid modernization, or electrification initiatives *WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY?* · Formal mentorship from experienced utility engineers. · Exposure to large-scale grid modernization initiatives. · Opportunity to work on projects directly impacting electric reliability for millions of customers. · Strong long-term growth potential within the utility industry. · Hands-on experience supporting planning, protection, operations, and reliability initiatives. _*Brooksource Engineering Services:*_ _Brooksource Engineering Services partners with leading manufacturing organizations to deliver engineering, maintenance, operational readiness, and technical talent solutions.
