Engineer, Design

Description: OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB Designs, develops, or modifies products, applying engineering principles. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, costs, time limitations, planning and related technical data to determine feasibility of product proposal Prepare designs, including calculations, drawings and bills of material for release to manufacturing Devise new approaches to problems encountered and participate in the research and development of new products Prepare designs, including calculations, drawings and fabrication procedures for approval by the customer Interface with all shop personnel, engineering, sales, quality assurance, and purchasing to meet the customer requirements Interface with customer on technical changes to the job and revise job requirements Check designs, including drawings, calculations and bills of materials originated by others Responsible for investigating and correcting product quality deficiencies OTHER DUTIES Performs all other duties as required Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred or equivalent experience Minimum 3 years experience required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS Identify problems, investigate the root-cause, and make recommendations for solutions VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS Use verbal skills to transfer information to groups WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS Prepare business documents, client case notes, technical reports, manuals, articles, etc. MATH SKILLS Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, statistical inference, frequency distribution, trigonometry, calculus, algebra, validity, etc. COMPUTER SKILLS Financial Software Internet/e-mail Spreadsheet Software Word Processing Software Computer Aided Drafting Software TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT General Office Equipment MENTAL DEMANDS typically required Respond to unpredictability High level record keeping High pressure for results Independent judgment and discretion Organize and prioritize Manage multiple projects/tasks Read, comprehend and follow instructions/work orders Relate to others PHYSICAL DEMANDS (typically required to perform the essential functions of the job) CONSTANTLY INCURRED (more than 75% time on job) Ability to sit Ability to communicate orally Ability to hear conversation WORKING CONDITIONS (typically required) CONSTANTLY INCURRED (more than 75% time on job) Requires work in a typical office setting FREQUENTLY INCURRED (25 – 75% time on job) Work weekly more than 40 hours Work a shift between 8-12 hours PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (typically required to perform the essential functions of the job) This position typically does not require the use of personal protective equipment.
