Certification DetailsBLSState RN LicensureJob DetailsThe Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care including executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting Licensed Independent Provider in examinations and treatment of patients.Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment and referrals of inmates/residents.Performs all technical/clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.Attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents; prepares list of inmates/residents to be examined; prepares examining room and equipment.Operates pill call, dispenses medication and documents as required by policies and procedures.Calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and emergencies.Examines and assesses new or ill/injured inmates/residents; refers to emergency room or appropriate healthcare facility as required.Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel and addresses their needs.Monitors inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.Provides guidance, supervises and monitors nursing care by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.Maintains good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers and outside agencies.Utilizes established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in decision making, using sound independent judgment.Regularly evaluates provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.Assists Health Service Administrator with review of medical files to ensure documentation of services provided.Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed or required.Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.Observes and records inmate/resident behavior.Inspects medical unit for contraband items; securely stores or disposes of supplies and equipment.Provides health counseling and education on individual or group basis as required.Assists Health Service Administrator in preparing and maintaining various records, reports and logs using appropriate grammar.Reads, analyzes, comprehends and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents.Reviews, processes and responds to lawsuits; attends court hearings when necessary.Facilitates NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program by providing required efficiency and appropriate medical services.Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required; takes appropriate action in serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.Job RequirementsMust possess current licensure in the state of employment.Graduate from an accredited college, university or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred.A valid driver's license.Schedule InformationMust be willing to work days or nights for primary shift, determined by facility needs.13 week initial duration.36 to 48 hours per week guaranteed, candidates must have open availability for scheduling as needed per client scheduling policy.12 hours per day shift length.Additional DetailsUS Citizenship required for ICE clearance.Expedited clearance in place for new activation.Candidates subject to thorough background and credit investigation for clearance.ICE Clearance takes 4-6 weeks to obtain; can start as soon as clearance is received.
