As a Benefit Corporation, we are committed to socially and environmentally responsible business practices, and through the application of sound science, we are driving positive change.Job OverviewThe Technical Specialist I, Product Claims will work as an auditor in the Non-GMO , Gluten-Free, Plant-Based and Non-UPF programs. This position is responsible for conducting desk and field audits, reviewing certifications, and providing technical expertise towards the development and continued improvement of standards, program materials, and procedures. The Technical Specialist I will also support audit-related activities across other certification programs, including research and development for new business opportunities and attendance at trade shows, conferences, and trainings.Relevant Standards/SchemesNon-GMO Project VerificationOthers, as determinedEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAuditingConduct field audits of production and processing sitesConduct desk-based audits including the review of program applications and audit reports completed by staff and regionally-based auditorsCommunication and Customer ServiceEnsure responsive and professional communication clients, other SCS staff, and third-party auditing organizationsProvide timely and professional support to clients on audit-related questions and issuesAttend and participate in trainings, trade shows, conferences, and meetings, as necessaryTechnical SupportOversee client non-conformity resolution processes, including review of corrective and preventative action plans, and evaluate corrective action implementationProvide timely and professional guidance and support to auditors and other third-party organizations via email, phone, and virtual meetingsPrepare and update written guidance for third-party auditors, and provide technical support to clients as neededDevelop, translate, and revise program materials, reports, and report templates.Develop and deliver training programs and related materialsProgram DevelopmentCarry out research in support of new program developmentDevelop program materials, workflows, and procedures related to preexisting programs or programs under developmentOperationsSupport and, if needed, represent the program for internal and external auditsProvide onboarding, management, and quality oversight of contract auditorsEnsure program compliance with SCS quality systemAdditional tasks as requested by the Director and ManagerMinimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in food science, chemistry, agriculture, or a related field or3+ years of experience in auditing activities for product claims standards, such as Non-GMO Project, Gluten-Free, Plant-Based, Non-UPF or similar programs and2+ years of experience in audit-related activities to the Non-GMO Project Verification programExperience with third-party auditing, certification systems, ISO 9001:2008 quality systems, or other applicable industry standardsExperience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysisExcellent technical writing, observation, and data management skillsAbility to complete time-sensitive projects and provide realistic deadlinesExcellent organizational skills and strong attention to detailStrong communication abilities and demonstrated abilities in critical analysisInitiative and ability to work independently, responsive and adaptive to team environmentStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPointPreferred QualificationsMaster's Degree or higher in a related field Verbal and written proficiency in SpanishFormal ISO 9001, ISO 19011, IOIA, and/or equivalent auditor trainingThe above description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
