ABOUT THE SCHOOL Located in the beautiful seaside town of Dorado, Puerto Rico, The TASIS School in Dorado, also known as TASIS Dorado, is an independent, non-sectarian, coeducational, not-for-profit, college-preparatory day school affiliated with The American School in Switzerland (TASIS) Schools in Switzerland, England, and Portugal. English is the primary language of instruction, and mastery of multiple languages is fostered from PPK to Grade Twelve. TASIS Dorado is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit institution under the U.S. and Puerto Rico tax codes. Founded in 2002 and located 15 miles west of San Juan, TASIS Dorado is set among 20 verdant acres in the Sabanera Dorado neighborhood of Dorado. TASIS Dorado’s curriculum offers traditional and innovative elements and is supplemented by various social and cultural activities. Emphasis is on learning skills, understanding and using concepts, and demonstrating knowledge through a variety of avenues. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Support the daily operations of the Writing Center, located within the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL), during the academic day and after school. Provide individualized and small-group support to students in all aspects of writing, including structure, clarity, argumentation, voice, and proper citation. Teach the senior College Writing course, guiding students through the full college application writing process, including personal statements, supplemental essays, scholarship applications, and essays for summer and enrichment programs, with an emphasis on authentic voice, clarity, and strong revision practices. Additionally, the position includes teaching an Upper School Literature course. Serve as a resource to faculty and administration in the development and refinement of: Teacher and advisor comments, College recommendations, Professional writing materials and reports. Participate in and help lead the Junior College Essay Writing Workshop. Design and facilitate writing and citation workshops for students and faculty in collaboration with the CITL Coordinator. Develop CITL programming that promotes strong writing practices, academic integrity, and research skills. Organize and coordinate writing-related events such as: Student writing showcases and exhibitions Internal and external writing contests Guest author visits and alumni engagement opportunities Collaborate with the CITL Coordinator to provide supervision in the Secondary Lounge and surrounding areas. Monitor a Study Hall and fulfill additional supervision duties as assigned. Sponsor or co-sponsor a writing-focused extracurricular activity such as: Literary magazine, Journalism club, Creative writing club, Review and edit student writing materials across disciplines. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL: Contribute to an organizational culture that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. Demonstrate a passion for helping students develop authentic voice, confidence, and clarity through writing. Be comfortable supporting writing across disciplines and in both English and Spanish. Exhibit strong enthusiasm for the writing process and student mentorship. Be confident using and integrating new classroom technologies and digital writing tools. Build positive, respectful relationships with Middle and Upper School students. Foster collaborative partnerships with faculty across academic departments. Show initiative in developing innovative writing programs and CITL initiatives. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 2–4 years of experience in a similar role, with preference given to candidates who have: Secondary classroom teaching experience Experience teaching research, composition, or academic writing Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. Strong organizational, time management, and technology skills. Familiarity with digital platforms and tools that support writing, research, and language development. Ability to inspire creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial thinking. Genuine enthusiasm for working with Middle and Upper School students. Ability to build strong partnerships with students, parents, colleagues, and external partners. Flexibility in scheduling, including potential late start days and afternoon hours. Timeline & Selection Process Start Date: This is a full-time position scheduled to begin in July 2026.
