GPS Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARYThe GPS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all GPS layout, site control, and survey-related operations across active projects. This role ensures accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in field layout while supporting earthwork, utilities, roadwork, and stringless curb machine operations.The GPS Supervisor leads field layout operations, maintains control standards, supports machine control systems, and provides technical guidance to field personnel. This position requires strong independent decision-making, leadership in the field, and the ability to proactively resolve layout and control challenges to keep production moving.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESField Layout & Site ControlEstablish, verify, and maintain site control including benchmarks and control points across all projects Ensure proper site localization and calibration prior to layout operations Perform and oversee layout for grading, utilities, roadways, structures, and other civil components Provide layout, line, and grade control for stringless curb machine operations, including alignment, flow lines, and elevations Maintain consistent accuracy standards across all projects and crews GPS & Survey OperationsOperate and oversee GPS/GNSS equipment for: Topographic surveys As-builts Progress tracking Ensure all survey data is accurate, organized, and properly documented Support digital terrain models and alignment files used for stringless curb machine systems Perform routine calibration checks and verification of control Machine Control & Curb Machine SupportSupport GPS machine control systems (dozers, graders, excavators) Load, update, and troubleshoot models and field files Verify machine control accuracy and performance in the field Support and troubleshoot stringless curb machine systems, ensuring proper setup and calibration Verify line, grade, and offset accuracy for curb machine pours Coordinate with curb crews to maintain continuous, accurate production Assist with model preparation and adjustments for curb alignments and profiles Quality Control & OversightProvide oversight and quality control for all staking and layout operations performed by others Perform periodic checks to ensure layout accuracy and compliance with plans Identify and correct discrepancies before they impact production Verify curb elevations, alignment, and finished grades meet plan specifications during and after installation Support quantity verification and cut/fill validation Technical Support & CoordinationServe as the primary GPS and layout resource for field teams Troubleshoot equipment, data, and layout issues in real-time Work closely with Superintendents and Foremen to stay ahead of production needs Coordinate with specialty crews, including curb machine operators, to maintain production accuracy Communicate layout priorities and constraints clearly to field leadership Equipment & Asset ManagementMaintain GPS equipment including base stations, rovers, and data collectors Ensure all equipment is field-ready, calibrated, and operational Manage batteries, firmware updates, and data integrity SafetyFollow and enforce all jobsite safety requirements Support a safe working environment across all projects Maintain OSHA compliance standards QUALIFICATIONSEducation & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED required 3–5+ years of experience in civil construction survey, GPS layout, or related field Experience in heavy civil, earthwork, and utility construction required Technical SkillsStrong working knowledge of: Trimble and/or Topcon GPS/GNSS systems Topcon Pocket 3D and Trimble Business Center Ability to read and interpret: Civil plans Grading plans Utility drawings Strong understanding of: Elevations, slopes, and coordinate systems Construction tolerances and accuracy requirements Experience supporting GPS machine control systems Experience with stringless curb machine layout and control systems preferred Professional SkillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Effective communication with field crews and leadership Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects Strong attention to detail and accuracy Certifications & RequirementsValid driver’s license with clean driving record OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and mobile devices (iPad/iPhone) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions Exposure to noise, dust, and construction-related hazards Ability to: Walk uneven terrain Lift and carry up to 75 lbs Climb, kneel, crouch, and perform physical labor as required WORK SCHEDULE8–10 hour workdays, Monday through Friday Occasional weekends as required to support operations
