Cath Lab Technologist
Job Summary:
The Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab. They work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that procedures are conducted safely and effectively. The role involves preparing patients, operating imaging equipment, and assisting in various cardiac procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation:
Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and answering questions.
Ensure informed consent is obtained and review patient history and medical records.
Procedure Assistance:
Assist cardiologists in performing cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent placements, and other interventional procedures.
Operate and maintain imaging equipment such as fluoroscopes, X-ray machines, and other diagnostic tools.
Equipment Management:
Ensure all equipment is properly sterilized and in good working condition.
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as they arise.
Monitoring and Safety:
Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort levels during procedures.
Follow radiation safety protocols and maintain a sterile environment.
Documentation:
Record detailed procedure notes, patient information, and outcomes.
Prepare and submit reports as required for medical records and billing.
Collaboration:
Work with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff to ensure optimal patient care.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding procedures and post-procedure care.
Quality Assurance:
Participate in quality control and assurance activities.
Stay updated with advancements in technology and procedural techniques.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field; a bachelor’s degree may be preferred by some employers.
Certification: Certification as a Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) is often required.
Experience: Previous experience in a cath lab or related clinical setting is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating imaging equipment and understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in patient care and documentation.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift or move patients as needed.
