Float Medical Assistant

Medical AssistantVascular Institute of the Rockies has been the premier comprehensive, multi-disciplinary vascular surgery practice in the region for the past twenty-plus years. We opened the first multi-disciplinary office-based lab and ambulatory surgery center in the state of Colorado and are now expanding to Cardiology. We are committed to pursuing progressive, state-of-the-art patient care through technological advancements, collaborative partnerships, and an evolutionary mindset.As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to the front and back office to ensure efficient operations in our cardiovascular surgery practice. You will support the provider clinics and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care coordination, organization, and communication. Our medical assistants ensure patient follow-up care by checking patients in, verifying insurance, collecting copayments, rooming and taking manual vital signs, promptly placing orders and requesting outside diagnostic imaging, labs, etc for each clinic patient. You may be assigned a variety of admin work supporting patients, including check-in, scheduling appointments, answering phones, and monitoring our e-fax inbox. Medical Assistants also support wound care, in-office procedures, and pre- and post-procedure care in conjunction with a nurse. This position will be best for a person who enjoys learning a variety of tasks and excels in a flexible work environment. This position may require travel between our Denver and Wheat Ridge offices throughout the week. Please only apply if you are willing and able to cover both locations.Responsibilities:Check patients in for appointmentsVerify insurance eligibility and collect copaymentsRoom patients promptlyVerify social history, medical history, surgical history, allergies, current medications, etcObtain blood pressures, oximetry readings, heart rate, temperature, and ECGDocument all history, vitals, and medications in EMRArrange hospital admissions, pre-admission testing/clearance, and laboratory servicesAssist during medical examinationsProduce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and formsPrepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instrumentsAssist during in-office procedures (scrub and circulate) using sterile technique (willing to train)Change patient bandages and wound dressings as directed by the providerCoordinate all incoming and outgoing medical records, imaging, labs, referrals, and authorization needsMonitor e-fax inbox, assigning and completing documents as needed.Create patient charts and referralsSchedule appointmentsAnswer phone calls from the front desk and the medical assistant lineSkills:Proven work experience as a medical assistant. Prefer certification1 year of experience in Cardiology or VascularComfortable with sterile technique and in-office proceduresKnowledge of medical office operations and patient care.Excellent time management and prioritization skillsTeam-oriented and able to work with a diverse team and environmentExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational and planning skillsProficiency in MS Office and patient management software. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds.Work Environment:Work is performed in a typical medical clinic and/or business office environment. Work in a clinical setting has the potential for exposure to blood and bodily fluids and infectious pathogens.
