Our Team And What We'll Accomplish TogetherTELUS is seeking an experienced Director of Planning & Engineering to support our network access and sustainment operations, as well as the multi-year transformation of our network infrastructure. You will work with planning, design, and engineering teams on network access infrastructure, outside plant relocations, standardization of power & cooling systems, and network efficiency initiatives that sustain and enhance our telecommunications network performance. In this critical role, you'll help ensure that TELUS reliably and efficiently delivers telecommunications services to millions of customers across Canada.What You'll DoStrategic Planning & Vision: Develop and execute comprehensive network build strategies aligned with corporate goals market demands, and regulatory requirementsEngineering Leadership: Lead a team of engineers and technical specialists in designing, planning, and optimizing network architectures for maximum efficiency and scalabilityNetwork Planning: Direct the planning and execution of outside plant infrastructure including aerial and underground fibre deployments; ensure compliance with industry standards and best practicesNetwork Transformation: Develop a long term strategy for network transformation opportunities that complement our corporate goals and drive towards network efficiencies and optimizationsPower & Cooling Standards: Establish and enforce power distribution and cooling infrastructure standards across all network facilities; ensure redundancy, reliability, and energy efficiency in power management systemsProject Oversight: Manage the planning requirements for multiple large-scale fibre deployment projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery while maintaining quality design standardsStakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal teams (Operations, Marketing, Finance), external partners, municipalities, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth project executionCost Optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce capital expenditure and operational costs while maintaining network performance and reliability; optimize network and power infrastructure designs for cost-effectivenessTechnology Innovation: Stay current with emerging fibre technologies, OSP methodologies, and power/cooling solutions; recommend adoption of innovations that enhance competitive advantageWhat You BringBachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications, or related field) or equivalent professional experience10+ years of experience in telecommunications, fibre network engineering, or related infrastructure industries5+ years in a leadership management role overseeing large-scale projects and teamsProven track record of successfully planning and executing fibre build-out projects at scale, including OSP design and deploymentStrong knowledge of fibre optic technologies, network design, and telecommunications standardsExpertise in outside plant (OSP) engineering, including aerial and underground fibre installation methodologiesDemonstrated knowledge of power distribution standards, UPS systems, and cooling infrastructure (HVAC, liquid cooling) for network facilitiesExcellent project management skills with experience managing budgets exceeding $50MDemonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex stakeholder relationshipsStrong problem solving capabilitiesExcellent communication and presentation skillsGreat-to-haveMBA or advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or related fieldExperience with FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) or FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premises) deploymentsSpecialized certification in OSP design or fibre network engineeringKnowledge of power management systems, energy efficiency optimization, and green infrastructure standardsExperience with modular data center and edge computing infrastructureKnowledge of Canadian regulatory environment (CRTC, provincial regulations, municipal bylaws)Experience with network design software, Myworld GIS mapping tools, and OSP planning softwareBackground in managing vendor relationships and procurementExperience in the Canadian telecommunications industryPEng certification (Professional Engineer)Advanced knowledge of English is required because you will most of the time interact in English with external parties (clients, suppliers, candidates, external partners, etc.); interact in English with internal parties (colleagues, internal partners, stakeholders, etc.); and work with IT tools whose interface is only accessible in English as part of this position's main responsibilities given its national scope.LI-RemoteJ-18808-Ljbffr
