Special Events Intern

Job Summary: Responsible for working with the St. Joseph Children’s Home Advancement team to coordinate and execute the 177th annual fundraiser, Picnic for the Kids through event management, marketing, and fundraising. PICNIC COORDINATION Serves as a contact person for the Annual Picnic Event. (Picnic includes Picnic Friday and Saturday event and related picnic events and meetings.) Supports Special Events Manager in logistics and communications with Chief Advancement Officer, Finance, Picnic Chair, Co-Chair, Advancement, SJCH departments, Volunteers, and food and service vendors. Learns and helps maintain picnic flow charts, tasks, and timelines with Operations and the Special Events Manager. Work with Volunteer groups on campus as they support our mission through Picnic. Coordinates with Communications Manager for all signage, mailers, etc. for communication for Picnic as well as working with social media platforms. Works with database management of Picnic with Advancement Staff (i.e. email correspondence, sign-up genius, etc.). Organizes and collects event information. Coordinates with Advancement staff to order booth supplies, and coordinate arrival and distribution of supplies to areas. Helps to maintain picnic supply storage in Picnic Headquarters with Special Events Manager and Advancement Attends Picnic meetings and assists with creating agenda items. Sets up as needed or requested. Along with the Advancement staff, recruits and coordinates volunteers for Picnic. Maintains donor and agency confidentiality and exhibits discretion in dealing with the general public, event committees, board of directors, and agency staff. Works with Director of Development to secure and steward sponsors and donors for Picnic #177. Skills Needed: Technical skills in Word, Excel, etc. Good organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail Commitment to nonprofits and the mission of St. Joseph Children’s Home. Self-discipline and time-management skills needed to work independently Dependable and punctual team player Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work with the public in a professional manner Moderate experience working with social-media platforms Skills Gained Include: General knowledge of nonprofit management and administration In depth knowledge of event planning Understanding of development and event fundraising Greater awareness of leadership and strategic-planning concepts Ability to develop relationships with community leaders Higher level of communication abilities Education and Experience: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Working towards a college degree in related field.
