Job Title: Controller Reports to: Chief Executive OfficerPosition Summary:The Controller ensures the organization’s financial operations are accurate, compliant, and well-managed. This role focuses on financial reporting, budgeting support, and day-to-day financial administration.The Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and sound fiscal administration. This role focuses on operational financial management, internal financial controls, and budgeting support to ensure the organization’s financial systems function efficiently and transparently.The Controller works closely with the COO, CEO, leadership team, financial consultants, and board finance committee to provide reliable financial data that supports informed decision-making.In keeping with ReUse’s values, the Controller will be willing to work with diverse program participants by supporting a positive mentoring environment, including these 5 key areas:Financial OperationsOversee accurate accounting records and financial systemsManage monthly and annual financial close processesEnsure accurate accounts payable, receivable, and external payroll processesSupervise finance and hr support staff, including a full-time bookkeeperFinancial ReportingPrepare monthly financial reports for leadershipMaintain compliance with grant requirements and reporting to granting agenciesSupport preparation of materials and lead presentations for the board finance committeeAssist external accountants during audits and tax filingsBudget ManagementLead budget preparation processes for oversight and review by Finance Committee and Board of DirectorsTrack spending against budgetProvide variance reports to department leadersCompliance and ControlsEnsure adherence to financial and hr policiesMaintain and adhere to internal financial controlsManage compliant regulatory filings and documentationManage benefits administration, including insurance vendor relationships, reporting, and staff communicationsEnsure organizational finance and HR policies comply with state and federal requirements, including paid time off, compensation, and safety requirements.Cash Management SupportMonitor cash balances with projections, and flag any potential concernsDraft budget models and projections and coordinate financial estimatesProvide reporting inputs for cash forecasting conducted by senior leadership or external advisorsAdditional Duties & Responsibilities: Identify opportunities to improve financial systems and operational financial efficiencyMaintain financial software and reporting toolsSupport implementation of best practicesRequired Qualifications: 5+ years of financial management or accounting experienceStrong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reportingExperience with nonprofit finance preferredStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsClear and regular communication to financial and leadership teamCore Competencies:Financial accuracy and integrityOperational financial managementBudget monitoring and reportingCompliance and risk awarenessCollaborative team supportReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
