As a Machine Operator, you’ll set up and operate a variety of machinery that shapes and builds the core components of our products. From conventional machining to computer numerical control (CNC) systems, your skills will help power industries worldwide.What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and NC/CNC machinery such as lathes, mills, grinders, shapers, and drill pressesRead and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, manuals, and sketches to determine machining steps, tolerances, and dimensionsMark, measure, and prepare materials using layout tools to guide precision machiningInstall and align fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories for proper operationCalculate machining parameters and enter control settings or CNC commands to ensure accuracyMonitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to address malfunctions or tolerance issuesPerform in-process and final part inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instrumentsAssemble machined components into finished assemblies, ensuring correct alignment and functionConduct trial runs and test parts to validate machine setup and programming accuracyCollaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve design or machining issuesUse welding equipment to fabricate or repair metal components (as needed)What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:Required ExperienceOne to three months related experience and/or training in machining or mechanical work experiencePreferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read mechanical drawings and use measurement toolsBasic math and spatial reasoning skillsCompletion of coursework in machining, manufacturing technology, or related technical programFamiliarity with CNC programming or editingWelding experience or certificationExperience developing or using jigs, fixtures, and shop aidsTravel & Working EnvironmentEmployee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
