A qualified Chemistry and Physics Teacher should be competent at organizing and delivering education curriculums to groups of students in an effective way. This position must also supervise and assess student performance. To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program within the classroom that promotes a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Serve as a role model for professionalism and integrity. Maintain a positive cooperative work atmosphere and oversee student disciplinary matters. This position reports to the principal.Essential Functions Communicating with students in an understandable effective way about daily lessons and instructions. Prepare lesson materials, grade papers, manage classroom, and evaluate and give feedback to students. Engage students in the learning process. Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities. Exercise open and respectful communication with students. Manage student behavior in accordance with outlined guidelines. Collaborate with school administration in enforcing rules of behavior, class participation, and conduct. Achieve excellence in chemistry teaching through excellent planning, organization, and interpersonal skills. Conduct research of projects and relevant literature. Educate students in the areas of chemistry, chemical technology, and advanced concepts in chemistry. Educate students on application of chemical techniques while fostering a sense of confidence in their abilities. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum, using a variety of instructional methods. Evaluate students’ progress, as well as that of peers, through standardized testing and other means. Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff. Supervise student activities during lab periods. Develop and maintain a positive, collegial, and cooperative professional environment. Attend workshops and training to further advance professional development. Perform other duties as assigned or required.Professionalism To be punctual and be available in the school during official working hours. To model and promote empathy, compassion, patience, and respect for the gender, ethnic, religious, cultural, and learning diversity of students. Mediation skills for resolving conflicts between students. To foster student self-control, self-discipline, and responsibility to others.Required Experience A minimum of three years teaching Chemistry, Physics experience in a Texas Public School. Successful prior teaching experience with High School students. Strong understanding of high school chemistry. Knowledge of classroom management and discipline. Knowledge of basic computer use. Ability to implement activities, including lab activities and safety lessons. Knowledge of basic high school math and physics.Required Education And Certifications Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field from an accredited college or university. Preferred valid TEA Certification in Chemistry, Physics instruction.
