D489 MAIN PROPULSION MOTOR DRIVE (MPD) SYSTEMS ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL) (ENGINEER I/II)

COLUMBIA Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Engineering has an opening for an engineer to support the design, test, and system integration of the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drives (MPDs). This role provides the opportunity to oversee the development and integration of critical components into the revolutionary electric propulsion system for the COLUMBIA Class. The D489 MPD team responsibilities include MPD design efforts, qualification testing, and analysis of complex systems within the component including power electronics, electromagnetics, control systems, etc. Additionally, the team has a strong focus on driving the supplier deliverables, test procedures, test reports, and design to meet all applicable requirements without deviation while identifying deficiencies in the specification to apply lessons learned to future electric propulsion plant submarine topologies. Engineers in the group will assist in MPD construction support and shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities and test support at the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, and the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA.Responsibilities: The engineer hired for this position will be expected to:Coordinate supplier MPD design and redesign efforts (Hardware and Software)Verify control system design compliance with specifications and system requirementsSupport testing and troubleshooting for MPDs at the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, the IPS CTF, and supplier facilitySupport lifecycle management activitiesInterface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL, NSWC, and suppliersInterface with Operations and Trades at Electric Boat manufacturing facilitiesEnforce technical requirements on suppliersRequirements Qualifications BS or MS electrical engineering degree with technical background (Electrical, Systems, Mechatronics, etc.)1 - 3 years of post-graduate relevant engineering experienceAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearanceAbility to occasionally travel to remote facilities within the United States (Philadelphia, PA; Milwaukee, WI; Washington, D.C., etc.)PreferredMaster’s degree in electrical engineeringExperience working with government customersAbility to understand macro level objectives and priorities while driving detailed level actionsMulti-disciplinary systems engineering experience in complex systems based productsExperience with Military StandardsExperience in variable speed motor drives, control systems, power electronicsExperience using MATLAB and/or SimulinkExperience with model based systems engineeringSkillsExperience using Microsoft productsEffective communicatorHighly driven personalitySelf-Starting mentalityStrong leadership skillsStrong problem solver, exceptionally well organized, and detail oriented
