Lead Engineer

*Lead Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer* Glycon Corporation is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to support the design and manufacture of precision components for the plastics processing industry. This is a hands-on engineering position combining mechanical design, CAD modeling, manufacturing support, and machine programming. The successful candidate will create and maintain manufacturing drawings for screws, barrels, feed throats, tooling, and related components. This person will also support production personnel to ensure designs can be manufactured accurately and efficiently. Experience in screw and barrel manufacturing is highly desirable, but not required. We are also interested in candidates with experience in CNC machining, complex part geometry, tooling, plastics processing equipment, or similar precision-manufacturing environments. *Responsibilities* * Create and revise detailed CAD drawings and models for plasticating screws, barrels, feed throats, and related components * Interpret customer drawings, specifications, samples, and application requirements * Develop manufacturing drawings with appropriate dimensions, tolerances, materials, and surface-finish requirements * Support production programming as needed * Translate engineering designs into practical and repeatable manufacturing processes * Work directly with machinists, operators, sales personnel, and management to resolve technical and production issues * Review designs for manufacturability, quality, cost, and lead time * Assist with process development, tooling selection, setup requirements, and continuous improvement * Troubleshoot dimensional, geometric, and manufacturing problems * Maintain accurate drawing revisions, engineering records, and programming documentation * Support inspection and quality personnel in determining critical dimensions and acceptance requirements * Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineering and production personnel * Travel to customer locations as needed *Minimum Qualifications* * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant engineering and manufacturing experience * Professional experience creating mechanical drawings and using CAD software * Strong understanding of mechanical design, machining, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes * Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings * Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing * Strong mechanical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills * Ability to work effectively with both engineering and shop-floor personnel * Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation *Preferred Qualifications* * Experience programming CNC machinery, CAM systems, or other computer-controlled manufacturing equipment * Experience designing or manufacturing plasticating screws, barrels, feed throats, or related extrusion and injection-molding components * Experience with screw whirling, thread whirling, complex helical geometry, or multi-axis machining * Experience with CAD software * Familiarity with programming and CNC setup * Knowledge of tool steels, stainless steels, heat treatment, nitriding, chrome plating, hardfacing, or wear-resistant materials * Experience with reverse engineering and designing from physical samples * Experience in a custom, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment * Prior experience leading projects or mentoring engineering personnel *What We’re Looking For* We are looking for an engineer who is equally comfortable working at a computer and collaborating on the manufacturing floor. The right person will be able to understand complex part geometry, produce accurate designs, and work through real-world manufacturing challenges with machinists and operators. They will be willing and able to travel to visit the customer in order to lend our expertise and on-site services. Because screw and barrel manufacturing is a specialized field, we do not expect every candidate to arrive with direct industry experience. We value strong mechanical fundamentals, relevant machining or programming experience, and the ability to learn specialized processes. *Position Details* * Job type: Full-time * Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM * Location: Tecumseh, MI--On Site Glycon Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
